JUNIOR REPORT 2008
7/10/2008 12:00:00 AM
The 2008 Football Season was a huge learning curve for all those involved with the Roopena Juniors. We were all new to our roles, I Matthew Sims took on the role of Junior President and as the coach of the Mighty under 8’s.
Justin Crompton took over from Kieren in the under 10’s, with a strict no nonsense coaching style, and he soon had the kids flying full of confidence, and playing a great brand of football. This style soon had them winning games and winning well. Justin moulded these boys into a great team, and with that came some super stars of the future. Here are just a few to keep your eyes on.
Kyle Crompton (Best & Fairest & Captain)
Jake Lamb (Best Backman)
Jordan Henderson-Ewings (Best & Fairest Runner up)
Jacob Austin (Coaches Trophy)
Clayton Crompton (Achievement Award)
Overall the under 10’s had a great year - so well done lads.
Gareth Molyneaux headed the under 12’s, in years past the under 12’s had struggled to win even one game but that was about to change.
Gareth turned out to be one of the best coaches I have seen, he could turn negatives into positives, he could get the kids up when they were down, but most of all he made the kids believe in themselves and their team mates. When Gareth spoke to the kids it was always positive and this made the kids want to listen and eager to learn.
The boys had a great year winning many games and even making the finals, unfortunately just going down, but they never gave up. They did the Roopena Football Club proud.
Also the under 12’s played in a Carnival at Mangalow, which was a really great day out. All in all we had plenty of support with at least 30 – 40 parents and club supporters heading down to watch the boys compete. The Lads and Gareth were driven down in a bus (Driven by Marg who gave up her own time to get the lads there, so a big thanks to you). On arrival we set up a camp fire, the bbq and a supporter base from where the football games could be viewed.
The lads had a good day winning one game and only just losing to the overall winner of the carnival. Again, there is some talent coming out of this team, here are just a few of them.
Bradley Coulson (Best & Fairest)
Toby Buhlmann (Best & Fairest Runner up)
Tyson Henderson – Ewings (Best Forward)
Sean Bryant (Best Tem Man)
Jace Mulligan (Coaches Trophy)
Cameron McCormick (Best Backman)
Jacob Cunningham (Achievers Award)
A top year for these boys – so well done.
Now back to the Under 8’s, what a great bunch of kids and talent to burn. Under 8’s is about having fun while learning and not about winning, having said that the boys and girls hardly lost a game all year – So well done. Heres some of the talent for the future.
Conner Lamb
Tanner Coulthard
Blake Vitaljic
Ethan Hunter
Simon Tetlow
Jacob Skinner
Harrison Seidel
Luke Clarke
Luke Karrsen
Hannah Ewings.
Just on closing I’d like to thank the team managers who make the coaches life a lot easier. Sharon Sims (under 8’s), Tash Ewings (under 10’s) & Sharon Buhlmann (under 12’s), Sharon also organized the Mangalow trip and did a great job.
Also, thank you to the Junior Committee (Theresa Sleep, Gareth, Sharon, Tash, Sharon & Matt), and a big thank you to Jock Sleep for your guidance and advise through out the year.
One more big thank you to all of you who gave your time to help through out the year from umpiring, goal umpires, gurnsey washers, assistant coaches and many others, you know who you are so again thank you.
Overall the juniors had a good year, we’ve got some great coaches, and a very good committee and some excellent volunteers. Not to mention some very good talent. So next year is looking promising and I for one can’t wait. Go The Might Roo’s.
Yours truly,
Matt Sims
Junior President.
